Hi Jay,

Jeff and I just heard the news. We want you, Collen and the kids to know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers. We have dealt with cancer in our family and know how difficult it can be. You probably hear this all the time but if there is anything we can do to help, please let us know. I am no longer working so if I can be of any help at all....driving you to appointments, getting Colleen out for lunch, or anything else....please contact us. We will be in touch and continue to follow your story.

Hello Jay. First, my family's prayers are with you and your family. My daughter, Josi, has lighted more than one candle for you.

I spoke with Kelly before mass the week before last in the sacristy and

was thrilled at how positive she was. Before I even knew you and Colleen, several years ago, I approached Kelly and told her how beautiful her voice was. I

Our great friends, Mitch and Jane Weber, first alerted us to your condition and asked us to pray for you. We do not know you and Colleen well, but I know you well enough to know how important you are to your family and friends.

My dad underwent radiation treatment several years ago, so I know abit about the mask. It worked for him, and I pray it works for you.

Please let us know if there is anything my family can do, other than pray. Please send our best to your wonderful family.

It's good to hear that you're on the mend. What a scary thing to have to go through. We'll continue to pray for you and your family. I like to read this to keep up on what's happening in Waukesha. There's no place like home.

The traffic will decrease significantly I think when (if) the Lowe's opens on Sunset and people on the southwest side of town won't be forced to drive to Home Depot or the new Menard's.

It puts some money in my pocket! The HVAC and building control system is purchased from where I work and is serviced by customers of mine, as are all Menards. Now, if the city would put some lumber racks on the city buses, it would clear up the traffic congestion that is going to happen.

As for the search group, given the format and the timing, did you actually think you were there to have an actual say in the process? Or was it a classic case of "Let's have a meeting with the possible players so we can claim they had input into our decision."

So which of you suggested that the community interviews and deliberations be moved to an auditorium so that the community could actually participate? Did any of you suggest the school board, if they were going to take your input seriously at all, would need more time than a hastily scheduled meeting with no agenda posted on their website? I'll admit that I was late to the room, but the only objection I remember to not communicating the deliberations to the various groups you represented came from Chris Lufter of the Waukesha Taxpayers League.

See Jay, you were given a time, position, and authority to object. Instead you rail at unnamed critics of the administration in an unconstructive fashion. You're guilty of exactly what you're accusing unnamed others of doing. The next time you're in that meeting room, and you feel the process is awry, do something about it.

But then, this isn't very constructive either. If you're reacting to nothing in particular, the targets of your ire escape any responsibility. You've created and oppose an amorphus "them" to whom nobody belongs.

Frustration? The criteria used by the search firm in their analysis would not, if applied evenly, have allowed for endorsement of anyone - regardless of credentials. Or...one could say that the multiple page, single-space criteria would have allowed for almost anyone. It depends on how it would be used.

There was and is no specificity to the groups I referred to. One has to merely follow local publications with citizen's comments to validate my contention that local criticisms, whether directed toward local pols, the School Board, and/or the departing Superintendent, have often veered towards personal attacks - without constructive criticism.

It's hard to understand the point of your criticism without any specifics.

I also don't understand the source of your frustration when you clearly didn't demonstrate it on Tuesday.

Maybe you can be his next campaign adviser. Two years in office is not enough time to see the effects of his policies. What is the positive spin on the lastest budget mess. Maybe putting "fees", aka a tax, to try and make up the 2 plus million short fall will be good for an already over taxed Waukesha? Maybe he wants us to no. 1 in that category also.

You are correct sir! Unfunded mandates, from federal and state, are killing communities. It starts from the home and then spreads to the community. The schools need to realize that they are NOT the social service agency... concentrate on reading, writing, and math and then the young people will develop the skills necessary to deal with all aspects of life!

I would have left the topic alone if not for your mention of the need for renewed second language emphasis.

Even as I think about purchasing the latest language teaching system for myself, I cannot go without saying that if our students are limited in what courses can be offered to them, I'd certainly forego a second language, in favor of basic economics, insurance needs, retirement strategies and especially credit management. One only has to look at the personal bankruptcy and home foreclosure numbers to see that the need is there.

If parents were never taught these things, how can they guide their children to live within their means and plan for the future?

While Waukesha will continue facing challenges in the coming years, I believe having a Mayor who is a strong, visible supporter of the Community is far better than having a pure "politician" telling us what they think we want to hear. Unquestionably Mayor Larry will tell it "like it is".

Jay,

I had Mayor Nelson as a teacher in eighth grade English at Butler Middle School about 15 years ago. I really didn't care for him back then, but it was school and English class for that matter and I didn't care for either one to begin with.

But I digress. Mayor Nelson hasn't changed much. His wardrobe, while unorthodox for a Mayor, is the same as it was when I had him as a teacher. But I think that helps him. He is not some stuff suit that sits in a big chair in an office with a window. He is out and about. Wears Crocs and sandals because he is comfortable. It gives him more of a common man look and is easy to relate to.

I am excited about some of the changes that he has brought during his tenure. While I am sure many of them may have happened either way, the big one is being on the forefront of the water issues.

He is helping to bring more businesses into Waukesha and cleaning up areas that need help, i.e.. Fleming plant.

I think Mayor Nelson has been refreshing to the city and I am looking forward to his continued success.

BTW-I did email the Mayor about a certain issue and heard back from him within a couple of days. I emailed him to just give an opinion and didn't expect a response. Nice to know that my voice is being heard.
