The report pointed out that during the next year, "states throughout the country will determine whether to comply with the Adam Walsh Act." The Adam Walsh Act is a federal law that "requires mandatory public registration for youth over the age of fourteen who are convicted of certain sex offenses. Congress passed this law in an attempt to protect our children from sexual violence."

JPI emphasized, in the report, that "the Adam Walsh Act won't keep our children safe. Instead this law will needlessly target children and families, undermine the very purpose of the juvenile justice system, and consume law enforcement resources." It is important to note that states do have the option to opt out of the law.

The fact of the matter is that, if you ever run across somebody who agrees with you 100% of the time, odds are they're trying to sell you something. I happen to really like a lot of the afore(nearly)mentioned Franklin blogger's topics.

I wasn't joking in my first MJS submission [blogs.franklinnow.com/.../swing-and-a-miss.aspx] that I loved reading Joel McNally growing up. I got to meet him a couple years ago and he was pleasant and friendly and we could, in all probability, do lunch without impaling one another on our salad forks.

Mostly, 'cuz I don't eat salad, but that's tangential to my larger point.

I know Kenosha's 66th District wannabe Democrat assemblyman Larry Zamba [http://electzamba.com/] from a previous life. Politically, we vehemently disagree, but I'd give the guy a kidney if he needed it. Maybe not my own, but still... I'd find him one.

I've even written about meeting Mayor Barrett [community.myfoxmilwaukee.com/.../Santa_Barrett] and how I believe he seems both sincere AND sincerely wrong. But yeah, if MY life suffers a consequence of his actions (or anybody else's), it's going to get under my skin and I'm going to write about it.

Politics IS factional. Metaphorically, politics is a gun in the middle of the table. People wrestle over it, and the winner of that struggle uses the weapon to force the loser to bow to their will. That's ugly by its design. It's polarizing by nature.

Staring down that barrel tends to make one bitter. Venting that rage can be a cathartic relief for a writer or a catalyst for his readers' anger. Or both.

I'd love to be able to blow off steam without heating up the room, but I'm not sure I know how. Yet. I'm still learning to dance, so toes will get stepped on.

A couple things regarding my new friends at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

1) My rejected submission was written long before I received/read their guidelines, and I understand why it was turned down;

2) Everybody I've met down there has been courteous, friendly, professional, and not one of them burst into flames when I sprinkled them with holy water; and

3) That sort of familiarity is going to make it harder in the future for me to poke the paper in the ribs when the S.S. M.J.S. comes hard to port (that's "takes a sharp left turn", for you land-lubbers).

Not impossible, mind you. Just harder...

As someone who has been in the manufacturing sector my entire career and only slightly older than the age group in question, I'm flat out dumbfounded by the ignorance of Mrs. Falk's blog entry. You can BET her company has focused extensively in the past few years on attracting young, talented professionals to the Falk/Rexnord and other manufacturing companies throughout Milwaukee. Making idiotic generalizations about an extremely diverse group of people only confirms how many manufacturing companies in this city remain stuck in the stone-age and why many of them have gone the way of the dinosaur.

I happen to know several mid 20-somethings with the education, training and management skills that run circles around their older co-workers. One happens to be a lead engineer (at the ripe old age of 26 years old)for Mrs. Falk's parent company.
