COMPUTER CLASSES OFFERED

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HOME COMPUTER

This class explores some of the basics and more interesting but lesser known areas of home computing.  You will learn more about using your computer for tasks that you may not use it for now, including learning the terminology, resources on the internet, creating various documents, learning how to save and find files, and customizing settings on your computer.  This course is intended for anyone that is somewhat new to home computers or just wants to learn more about the basics. This class will be held on Monday evenings, Sep 8 – Oct 13, 2008, 6:00 – 7:30PM in the Senior High – Room 2105.    

 

LEARNING MICROSOFT EXCEL for the beginner 

This course is intended to introduce you to the program and help you find uses for it in your home, class, or business.   This class will be held on Monday evenings, Sep 8 – Oct 13, 2008, 7:30 – 9:00PM in the Senior High – Room 2105.    

 

INTERMEDIATE MICROSOFT OFFICE

This course will go into a higher level of using the Microsoft Office package, including Word, Excel and Power Point.  Creating more sophisticated and more technically useful documents is a goal of this course.  A good working knowledge of these programs or previous completion of the Recreation Department “Learning Microsoft Office” course would be very helpful to get the most out of this class. This class will be held on Wednesday evenings, Sep 10 – Oct 15, 2008, 6:00 – 7:30PM in the Senior High – Room 2105.    

 

LEARNING MICROSOFT OFFICE

This is a beginning course for leaning the various programs of the Microsoft Office package including Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.  How to use these programs at home or work will be explored.  This class is intended for people who have a basic knowledge of their computer, or are also taking the “Getting the most out of your home computer” class in conjunction with this class. This class will be held on Wednesday evenings, Sep 10 – Oct 15, 2008, 7:30 – 9:00PM in the Senior High – Room 2105.

 

Registration is now being accepted by mail (include name, address, age where applicable, telephone, class choice, e-mail address and proper fee) or in person on a first-come, first-served basis at the South Milwaukee Recreation Department, Room #1100, 901 15 Avenue, South Milwaukee, WI 53172.  Walk-in registration is possible, Monday - Friday, 8:00 -12:00 noon and 1:00-4:00 P.M.   We are located on the east side of the new Senior High School.  You may park your car in the east lot and enter the building through door #24.  The Recreation Office is located just inside of door #24 and the building is labeled COMMUNITY RECREATION & FITNESS CENTER.  You may also visit our website (www.smrec-fitness.org) and register on-line.   The fee for this class is $32 for residents and $48 for non-residents.

ADULT BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL LEAGUES

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is now accepting applications in its adult volleyball andbasketball program.  Team entry forms are now available at the Recreation Department Office located at 901 15th Avenue.

 

All teams must register on or before Wednesday, Oct. 1ST by 4:00PM and all registration sponsor fees must be paid at this time.  Resident Sponsors and previous year teams in good standing will have priority. Should you have questions or need additional information please call us at 766-5081.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY TEAM

The South Milwaukee Recreation Dept. is offering an opportunity for youngsters enrolled in 6-7-8th grade to participate in the cross country program which will meet Monday - Thursday, from 3:00-4:00 PM.  Also featured will be away meets and bus transportation.    The program will run from approximately September 2 – October.   Both public and parochial students may register.

MARTIAL ARTS

The following Martial Arts class will be a held from September 11 – December 18 at E.W. Luther Gym on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  All students must purchase a uniform.  The uniform cost will be approximately $30.00.  Additional information will be available at the first class from Instructor - Rick Gawronski.  Enter door #9 and park in the back of the school.  

 

Lil’ Dragons, a class for 4 and 5 year olds will be from 5:30PM-5:55PM.  This class will offer fun exercises and games, kids begin to learn the basic movements and manners associated with the martial arts.   The class fee is $30 residents and $45 non-residents.  A minimum of 8 students need to conduct the class. The activity code is H101.101.  

 

Lil’ Tigers Karate a class for 6 - 8 year olds will be from 6:00PM-6:25PM.  This class helps prepare children for our core martial art program.  Kids will learn the basic foundation of karate, develop confidence, strength, flexibility and coordination.  The class fee is $30 residents and $45 non-residents.  A minimum of 8 students need to conduct the class. The activity code is H101.102.  

 

Te Jutsu Kai a class for 9 years - adults will be from 6:30PM-7:25PM.  Strongly influenced by Japanese karate, this class integrates principals and techniques of Chinese Kempo, Jeet Kune do, western boxing, and Eskrima.  By integrating we can cater to the needs and abilities of the individual without compromising the traditionalism in which the arts were developed, students become confident, physically fit, and well disciplined. The class fee is $40 residents and $60 non-residents.  A minimum of 9 students need to conduct the class. The activity code is H201.103.

SWIM LESSONS

Make swimming an important part of your child’s life!!  Swimming lessons will give your child a good start in learning to enjoy the water as well as learning the skills necessary for its use as a lifetime sport.  Swimming classes designed to teach and improve skills to instill a positive and safe attitude toward water.  Classes will be held at the South Milwaukee Middle School Pool beginning Sept. 13-Nov 15.   For safe and effective instruction, it is important that children sign up for the appropriate level when they register.  In most cases, students require an average of two or more sessions before passing a given level.

8 Lessons are scheduled as follows:  Parent/child, 2-5 years, 9:00-9:25AM;  Level 1, 9:30-10:10AM;  Level 2, 10:15-10:55AM;  Levels 3 & 4, 11:00-11:40AM

Parent and Child lessons require one adult to be in the water with one child - the child's age may range from 2 to 5 years.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE AQUATIC CLUB - SMAC

What a great opportunity for kids 6 years and older who can swim 2 lengths of the pool to develop coordination, and enhance your swimming skills.  This competitive swim program is designed for both the beginning and experienced swimmer.  The objectives are to promote enjoyment while learning fundamental competitive swim skills, as well as providing continuing development for the experienced swimmer.  Please note that competition is optional and is not a requirement for membership.  This is especially good for adults who wish to swim laps and stay in shape throughout the year.  NEW members are always welcome.  Attendance is not mandatory at all practices - the coaches will develop a practice schedule that best suits your needs.  The fall session runs September 8 – December 12, and will be held 6:30-8:00 on Monday & Friday and Wednesday from 6:00-7:30PM.

YOUTH DRAMA CLASSES OFFERED BY THE REC

Boys and girls come join this popular activity!  A great opportunity for you to have fun while learning a little bit more about creativity.  This class (5 classes) involves activities that encourage and develop theatre skills, learning about improvisation, participating in movement activities and learning how to play a fictional character through creative drama exercises.  The class will conclude with a final presentation.  Students 7-10 years will meet from 6:00-7:20PM; and students 11-15 years will meet from 7:30-8:20PM.  Both classes will be held in the Middle School MPR on Thursday evenings from Sept. 25-Oct. 23.

SOFTBALL PITCHING SCHOOL

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is offering a Softball Fast-Pitch School for 8-15 year olds. The Class is designed for the beginning/intermediate pitcher serious about learning proper fast-pitch softball fundamentals.  Pitching technique will be strongly emphasized.  Students are to provide their own catcher. Indoor (Sof-T) balls must be used for safety reasons.
This class will meet September 13, 20, 27; and Oct 4, 2008 on Saturday mornings from 8:00-9:00AM in the Rawson School Gym.  Please enter through door #8.

SOCCER FOR KIDS

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department will again offer the popular SOCCER PROGRAM for boys and girls 4-7 years of age.  The program will be held at Rawson Field on Saturday, September 13-Oct. 18, from 9:00-9:50 AM.

 

The program instructors will work with volunteer coaches with emphasis on having fun and learning skills.  Coaches will attempt to work on such phases of the game as offense, defense, kicking, running etc.  Games will be played through the use of drills and contests.   Volunteer coaches will be needed.  If you are interested and can spent approximately 50 minutes a week for six weeks please contact the South Milwaukee Recreation Department.

KIDS PIG SKIN PAL'S FOOTBALL

BALLET TAP JAZZ TUMBLING POMS POINTE

Registration is now being taken by mail and in person at the South Milwaukee Recreation Dept. Office for its Youth Ballet & Tap, Tumbling,  and Jazz,.  Classes are held on Saturdays at the Middle School MPR beginning September 13th.

THE NEW DISCOVERY TIME CLASS

Hey moms and dads!  Come join instructor Julie Lentz for this popular activity!  Discovery Time will have limited openings for 3-4 year olds.  The program is structured to make your child’s first class room experience an exciting, creative positive learning experience.  Learn numbers, animals, letters, colors and how to play with others.   Activities are planned with an emphasis placed on developing your child’s imagination, peer socialization and creative skills.  Some of the activities will include stories, songs, finger plays, crafts, small and large motor activities in addition to free time to spend with their classmates and friends.  Special off-site events may also be planned.  Your child must be toilet trained.

Class will be held at the Senior High in room 1043 for children 3 & 4 years.  A total of 24 classes are scheduled for Tuesday & Thursday, September 9 – Dec 16.  Class will run from 9:00-11:00AM.  No class Oct 30, Nov 27, Dec 4, 9, 11, 2008.

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is happy to announce that the exercise classes will again be offered.  The classes will begin the week of SEPTEMBER 8 and students will have eight lessons.  All classes will be held in room 1125 in the Senior High School, except Water Aerobic will be offered at the Middle School in the pool.  The classes offered will be:
