Our February 17th Adult Book Club is now full, and registration has been closed.

We still have two more great Adult Book Club meetings coming up before summer, and we hope to see you here!

PBS Kids GO! Writers Contest

The Brown Deer Library is proud to take part in the 2010 Milwaukee Public Television's sixteenth annual writers contest!

Open to children in kindergarten through the 3rd grade
One entry per child
Each entry must include an official entry form
Each entry must be typed
Each entry must have 5 colorful illustrations

Local first-place winners in each grade level (K- grade 3) will be entered into the national level of the Contest where a panel of judges will identify the national winners. Winners will be announced and national prizes, including laptops, digital cameras and MP3 players will be awarded in summer 2010.

Entries may be turned into the reference desk, or mailed to the address on the entry sheet.

Contest deadline is Monday March 1^st, 2010

Spring Story Time!

Our pre-school Spring Story Time session successfully kicked off last Monday January 25th!

Story times are on Mondays and Wednesday, from 10:30-11:30 AM. You must pre-register if you wish to attend. You can do so by stopping by the reference desk, or emailing the children's librarian at: Dana.Andersen@mcfls.org

Last Week to Enter Our Spooky Story Contest!

The deadline for our Spooky Story contest is quickly approaching! All entries must be returned to the library by 5:00 pm on Tuesday October 27th.

Participants may enter only 1 "spooky story"

3rd-5th grade: 400 word limit / 6th-8th grade: 600 word limit / 9th-12th grade: 800 word limit

Entries must be typed. No previously published work will be accepted.

Please do not put your name on the same page as your entry. Please include a cover sheet with your name, address, and phone number and paper clip it to your story.

One winner from each age group will win a $15 Target gift card.

A collection of the winning and notable entries will be made available for checkout at the library.

Next Theatrical Thursday - Coraline

2009 Halloween Program - Paranormal Investigators of Milwaukee!

You are invited to attend an informational event about the world of ghosts and hauntings by one of Milwaukee's own paranormal groups -
the Paranormal Investigators of Milwaukee.

Group members will discuss the techniques they use to prove (or disprove) hauntings, as well as show evidence they have caught while investigating.
A Q&A session will follow.

Fall 2009 Theatrical Thursdays Has Begun!

Last Thursday, September 24th, the Brown Deer Library held the first of the Fall 2009 Theatrical Thursday film screenings. We watched the film "Race to Witch Mountain", and had a turnout of 41 people!

Popcorn, juice, and popsicles were available for sale, with all the proceeds funding the library's storytime program.

Our next Theatrical Thursday will be held on October 29th, at 6:00 pm. We will be watching "Coraline", which is rated PG.

Here Tonight - Fred Turk

For more than 25 years, Fred has entertained people of all ages with his banjo and puppets. An elementary teacher for 34 years, Fred has written most of his songs from his experiences with children. Fred's musical madness will entertain people of all ages.
