Maple & Main

Curt is Chicago native – but don’t hold that against him. After stops in Madison and California, he and his wife moved to Waukesha in 2004 to open their own downtown business.

What Hotel

We Now Join The Waukesha Common Council Meeting Already in Progress...

Let's face it- the average crowd in any Common Council meeting in the City of Waukesha usually includes mostly empty chairs and a few wayward crickets.

Perhaps most folks enjoy watching the meeting from the comfort of their homes while sipping tea and nibbling on crumpets.

Personally, I think it’s time we get Ryan Seacrest to host the event- and perhaps Waukesha I.T. can rig a “phone in your votes now” system, thus making the meeting SO exciting that everyone in the world would watch!

Maybe we’re not quite there yet.

However, last Tuesday’s Common Council was quite a change from the usual.

The crickets were ousted and the Common Council Meeting became an almost “standing room only” event because of some downtown hotel project.

Hotels aside, I think it’s important to focus on a few of the other things going on at this council meeting- a few things that may have been overshadowed by the big hotel debate…

…in particular - and more important than hotels or restaurants or tax money- our police and fire departments.

Four of Waukesha’s finest received awards for exceptional conduct in the line of duty.

Each award spoke of courage, calmness, and quick thinking during stressful events that resulted in the saving of other’s lives.

Outstanding.

These departments both deserve pats on the back, and those four individuals deserve a hearty “thank you” from all of us who are lucky enough to live in a City kept safe by a superb police and fire department.

There’s a hotel coming to Waukesha? Huh, who would have known?

More Solutions to Downtown Issues

First, the solution to the Tall Grass Water Tower situation.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to offer the great city of Waukesha a solution to its downtown parking issues.

The Marina City Parking Tower Complex, located in downtown Chicago.

This will offer plenty of parking for the new Clark hotel and ample parking for visitors. It has a retro/artistic flair, which will complement the changing landscape of our downtown.

The really great thing about this is it will free-up the on-street parking for the business owners and residents who are abusing… I mean…using it now!

Win, win!

As far as location goes, there is a great big parking lot over by the new bear statues along the riverfront just waiting for development.

Man, this is easy.

This week’s featured artist is my neighbor, Tim Minkley.

Tim is a self-taught artist who has been drawing and painting for years. His work has been featured in many of the local galleries Downtown.

He painted this picture of our studio back in November of 2006 and presented it to us just before Thanksgiving. It’s a nice reminder of how beautiful summers are in Wisconsin.

Check back here every so often for new works by featured artists.
