Uh, Dave..Get a grip. The manager acknowledged she knew she was violating proper health code by what she was doing. She was, in fact, handling food with her hands not in gloves (I never said the food was wrapped), after handling money and the register. She did not handle "my" food because she knew I was watching her.

Just because people call in sick and don't show up for work isn't the public's fault. That doesn't mean management is allowed to get lax in health practices. So, no, it's not appalling for me to state facts on my blog. Facts that I saw with my own two eyes and facts that the manager stated. Just so you know, you should be able to go to any restaurant and with the belief that they are following health codes.

What does "call out" mean? And what about "just can't make it to work? How do employees expect a business to stay in business that way? Oh wait...they don't care...they are just fast food employees. Well, a job is a job, and a business is a business...If you take a job, get your butt to work. Then a manager won't have to be "thrown around running to place to place" and can do the job they are hired to be doing, which is managing. Yeah, life if tough...I have to work too.

I work at a fast food restaurant in Milwaukee, yes, sometimes managers have to be thrown around running to place to place, this happens not because of the managers fault, it happens because some employees call in sick, call out, or just can't make it to work.

Knowing most fast food managers, they want the best interest for the customers and they want to get their food out fast. When you say she told "I know" that you need gloves on when handling food and washing your hands after touching money, that’s GREAT of her. At least she isn't lying just to please YOU. She said the truth, she KNEW that she needed gloves, but she did nothing wrong with no gloves.. Yes, she touched a burrito, which was already wrapped; yes she handed out the burrito on a tray, oh well! She never came in contact with your food, and going around your blog saying that I hope the people of Franklin do not get sick from this is just appalling.

Maybe if you don't think that their management is being trained well enough, then don't eat at Taco Bell.

I swear, I just gave Goodwill a pair that color a couple of months ago! Do you think it's too late to buy them back? (I'm sad to say they were 8 1/2s or I'd suggest you could have them.)

Yikes! You guys are killing me.

You're missing my point. It wouldn't be so bad if the manager was ignorant or just played dumb to me. She acknowledged she knew, right to my face. Then she rushed my order to get me out of the way and proceeded to continue doing what she was doing. You can't run a fast food restaurants at noon as busy as Taco Bell with two employees.

I've worked in restaurants too. Maybe you are okay with it...but I wasn't. Some places do take pride in (or did) training their employees the proper way to handle food.

Just because "there are more disgusting things going on at most fast-food restaurants than this" doesn't mean we have to accept it. It starts at the top with management. I guess management isn't being trained anymore.

I guess it's like that in other places of business too, Mark. You've got some people who do quality work, and others who do crap work. And sometimes they are paid equally. Some people just have to do quality work, no less. It's just the way they are. Some people are more dedicated. I just think you need to do quality work.

As a former fast-food restaurant manager and employee, I can (unfortunatley) relate to what this Taco Bell manager was going through. If you're shorthanded and missing an employee or two, you have no choice sometimes but to handle the cash and the food at the same time!

There were many times when I worked at Jack-in-the-Box that I was the only employee on duty...and I worked the back end of the shop as well as the front end.

This doesn't excuse it, but it IS understandable.

And trust me, Janet, there's a lot more disgusting things going on at most fast-food restaurants than this

Oh I eat the Bell every once in awhile....knowing full well that I do so at my own risk (considering the employees at your typical fast food restaurant).

But you can't see what goes on in the kitchen in a fine restaurant, Josh. I love fine food...but every so often, I love "toxic" food like Taco Bell.

You never eat fast food? It's still no excuse...in half an hour at least twenty cars and inside customers passed through...people in Franklin are eating at Taco Bell, even though you aren't. They deserve health rules to be followed, even if they are eating fast food.
