After virtual conversations with virtual characters relating to Shorewood's future, I think that we should come up with some positive points to think about.
Of course, tax base is important and its expansion is a significant goal. But my contention is whether this objective should over-shadow everything else that is at least as important to our community.
Can those making the financial decisions be sensitive or be in the position to judge architectural quality, appropriate spacial settings and social community requirements?
Joe Adams believes that Village Hall has the responsibility of coming up with ways that provide for sufficiently qualified people to appropriately make decisions in any of these areas.
Therefore, they must find ways for making proper judgments and reaching appropriate determinations in these matters. Expanding the tax base on its own is not enough.
I strongly believe that the improvement of the tax base should hold a high priority.
I also strongly believe that the architectural quality of our community, the appropriate setting of buildings and their groupings and the social community contribution that each project makes to the community on a total and unified basis should be even more important.
I think we should therefore revisit the process of project review and acceptance, approval and the manner in which we accomplish these overall important goals.
